Crooked Stave is a play on the word Stave – a singular wooden slat, collectively joined together by metal hoops to forge a wooden barrel. Our name is a commitment to how closely we work with each barrel and embodies the love we put into each beer. Wooden barrels are the focal point of our brewery and the beers we brew. We are the Crooked Stave by way of origins, different than our peers at the time and how we got started. We set our own path and paved the way, releasing specialty Brettanomyces only, wild, sour and barrel aged beers.

Crooked Stave is broken up into two different divisions: Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project and Crooked Stave Artisans Distributing. 

Crooked Stave was founded in Denver, Colorado in late 2010 as an Artisan Beer Project. Crooked Stave is the culmination of “Founder and Brettanomyces Guru” Chad Yakobson’s open source Master’s research, "The Brettanomyces Project." Crooked Stave’s progressive approach to brewing blends science and art through creativity and passion. The artistic creations, most of which use Brettanomyces yeast and mature in oak, result in beers of extraordinary complexity. 

Crooked Stave Artisans (CSA) is the distribution arm of Crooked Stave. Founded in 2012, CSA is an emerging Colorado distribution company that represents an ever-growing portfolio of the best international and American breweries, cideries, wineries, distilleries and food producers. CSA’s connection to the artisans themselves is as important as the connection to the customers who buy and sell our products. We are committed to leadership through education, with effective training that promotes sustainable growth through profitable sales.
