Adams Street Brewery
In the late 1800s, our founder Herman Joseph Berghoff began brewing beer. After successfully selling it outside Chicago’s World’s Fair, he decided to open a small café that served beer as well as sandwiches. That tiny café housed on the corner of Adam’s Street is now The Berghoff Restaurant. An historic Chicago establishment, The Berghoff was recently awarded a resolution from the City of Chicago for 120 years of excellence in service. Now, The Berghoff Restaurant is paying homage to its roots by bringing the art of brewing beer in-house.
Adams Street is where The Berghoff became an establishment, earned Chicago’s first ever liquor license, and served generations of families. To many, the building on Adams Street is more than just a location; it’s a “real-time, working memory factory.” As a tribute to the place that the Berghoff family has called home for over a century, the brewery is named Adams Street Brewery.
