SC Based Brewery

Looking for an experienced pro brewer who's ready to make the leap to head brewer or a head brewer looking for a new challenge at a highly capitalized locally-owned company start up production brewery. We are located in Columbia, SC and are building a complete Production Brewery, Full Restaurant and Entertainment Complex in a 63k sq ft Historic Manufacturing Building. We want someone who can step in on day 1 and make kickass hazies, kettle sours, seasonals, lagers and so on but be spontaneous.
Our locally owned company already has a hospitality division and the Brewery Business will be led by our Director of Sales and Operations who has over 20 years experience working in the beer business for small to large sized craft breweries and in wholesaler distribution. We also already have an HR and accounting department so ultimately our Head Brewer just needs to make great beer! No worrying about HR, accounting, distributor sales, Tap Room or Restaurant management.

Experience & Qualifications
  • 3+ years commercial brewing experience
  • Degree in Brewing Science or Technology preferred but not required
  • Producing wort on a 20HL, 4-vessel steam system
  • Brewing on a wide range of brewing equipment
  • Performing CIP and sanitation of fermenters, brite tanks, and brewhouse
  • Managing yeast processes (i.e. harvesting, pitching, cell counts, etc.)
  • Starting a barrel program
  • Planning fermentation tank utilization and wort production schedule
  • Coordinating raw material needs with Operations Manager
  • Packaging (kegs, canning, and bottling)
  • Creating and/or assisting with recipe and process development
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Performing necessary maintenance on equipment as needed
  • Leading a team of brewers in wort production processes
  • Hiring and training new brewers as needed
  • Proven brewery knowledge including chemistry & biology
  • Adherence to workplace safety procedures and ability to work in confined spaces and strong knowledge of brewery hazards
  • Management and Leadership skills
  • Ability to stand for hours at a time and lift 50 to 160 pounds
  • Must show attention to detail, be safety-minded, quality-focused, have a great work ethic

Compensation Expect More
  • Compensation: Will earn a yearly salary in addition to being a part of a monthly incentive-based bonus structure, and the other opportunities to earn additional income.
